Headline □ ‘ASEAN-ROK Startup Conference’ for solidarity of ASEAN and startup ecosystem and policy exchange will be held at BEXCO, Busan from Nov. 25 to 26, 2019. □ Strengthening ASEAN-ROK Startup solidarity by introducing Korea's startup policy to ASEAN and sharing success stories of global unicorn companies and startups.

ASEAN-ROK Startup Conference was held at BEXCO, Busan on Nov. 25 (Mon.) to promote ASEAN-ROK Startup business policy and strengthen startup ecosystem solidarity.

The two-day event, held until Nov. 26th (Tue.), is part of 「ASEAN-ROK Startup Expo, ComeUP」 an additional event of ASEAN-ROK special summit, was hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun), and organized by korea SMEs and Startups Agency (President Lee Sang-jik), Korea Federation of SMEs (Chairman Kim Ki-mun), Korea Small Business Institute  (Acting Director Jeon In-woo), Korea Technology Financial Corporation (Director Jung Yun-mo), Korea International Trade Association (Chairman Kim Young-joo), ASEM ECO-INNOVATION CENTER (Secretary General Cho Jung-rae).

ASEAN-ROK Startup Conference, built on the goal of sharing ASEAN-ROK Startup policies and strengthening networks, was held in two sessions: 'Policy Conference' and 'Unicorn Startup Lecture'.

The 'Policy Conference', held on the 25th, was held as a policy introduction and panel talk program of ASEAN-ROK government-linked SMEs with the theme of understanding ASEAN-ROK Startup ecosystem and seeking cooperation between companies and governments.

Starting with ‘ASEAN-ROK Startup SME Cooperation Forum’ of Korea Federation of SMEs, the event proceeded in order of ASEAN Startup innovation through the Korea Technology Evaluation System ‘panel discussion, ‘Korea Technology Evaluation System of Korea Technology Finance Corporation,’ Introduction of Policy Efficiency Plan’, ‘People Accelerating Startups, Talking with Domestic Accelerators’ talk concert of Korea Federation of SMEs, and ‘Global Open Innovation Forum’ by Korea International Trade Association.

In the ‘ASEAN-ROK Startup SME cooperation forum’, the feature event of the Korea Federation of SMEs, the panel comprised Chairman Vu Tien Loc of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ASEAN-KOREA CENTRE Chief Lee Hyuk, whom presented the ASEAN-ROK Startup SME cooperation plan and Network, Globalization’ and KIEP Senior Researcher Kwon Yul, and Senior Researcher Vu Xuan Tho of Samsung Securities.

The presentation program by team leader Jin Hyung-seok of the Startup Global Support Team of Korea International Trade Association rounded out proceedings by outlining the open innovation status and implications for global companies and startups.

The 'Unicorn Startup Lecture' session consisted of speakers of ASEAN-ROK Unicorn Corporations and global startups who shared their success stories and global entry strategies with participants.

Qraved CEO Kim Seong-hoon, who will participate as a speaker, founded “Food and gourmet introduction platform company” in Indonesia, which is currently a preliminary unicorn that can achieve full unicorn status by 2020 upon selection by the Indonesian government.


In the congratulatory message of ASEAN-ROK Startup Conference, Vice-Minister Kim Hak-do of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups stated the importance of cultivating startups and expanding solidarity between nations and reiterated that the Ministry of SMEs and Startups will be at the forefront in solidifying ASEAN-ROK Startups through the special ASEAN-ROK Startup summit.
