□ “Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman” launched for on-site communication and safety inspection at regulation-free special zones

□ Ombudsman comprised of experts in the private sector serves the role of monitoring the safety measures of each special zone while listening to the opinions on the on-site difficulties and making relevant enhancements.
The “Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman” will be operated for the on-site communication and safety inspection of the regulation-free special zones, which serve as the testbed for new technologies and industries through regulatory improvements.

On the 24th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereafter “MSS”) held the launching ceremony of the “Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman” at Gwanghwamun, Seoul.

The “Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman” formed by the SME Ombudsman (Chairman Park Joo-bong) and seven experts will carry out activities in each special zone over a year. It will not only identify difficulties existing in the field and collect on-site opinions but also check the implementation status of demonstration projects and enhance relevant systems.

Moreover, it will conduct monitoring on the setup and implementation of safety measures, and serve as a bridge between the special zones and the MSS by collecting and delivering the suggestions made by companies on site through meetings with the companies.

In particular, it is expected that the members of the ombudsman will play a central role in facilitating the projects of the special zones, as they have taken part in the projects from the initial stage of the special zones’ designation and thus are well aware of the special zones’ characteristics and project direction.

The members who attended the launching ceremony promised to make an all-out effort to fully meet their roles for the creation of new industries and jobs through the regulation-free special zones.

“The regulation-free special zones should place a priority on life and safety of people and the stability in the environmental sector, along with the achievements of the projects,” said Park Joo-bong, the chairman of the Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman.

He also added, “We will support the activities of the On-Site Examination Team and Regulation-Free Special Zone Ombudsman so that no areas will be left unnoticed in the field through close monitoring.”
