Launch of “Mediation Committee on Win-Win Cooperation (Chairperson: Minister of SMEs and Startups)” in a Private-Public Joint Effort to Address the Unfair Trade of SMEs

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereafter “MSS“) launched the “Mediation Committee on Win-Win Cooperation,” which is chaired by the Minister, on June 27, 2019 (Thursday), at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) to support conciliation and arbitration between parties with respect to “technology theft” and “unfair trade.”

Following the launch, it held the first meeting of the committee in collaboration with public and private sectors. The meeting was participated by nine commissioned members from five related government agencies, including Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) and Supreme Prosecutor's Office (SPO), as well as groups comprising representatives of the small, medium, and large enterprises, legal circles, and academia.

The committee will act as a mediator among small, medium, and large enterprises primarily to draw voluntary agreement through conciliation and arbitration. When failing to achieve conciliation and arbitration, it will have the KFTC or prosecution and police to deal with the issue to root out technology theft and unfair trade as well as build up the environment where the small, medium, and large enterprises coexist and pursue a win-win result.
