The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Park Young-sun, hereafter “MSS“) and the Korea International Trade Association (KITA, Chairman Kim Young Ju) hold the third meeting of the “Public-Private Consultation Body for Accelerating Online Export of SMEs” on July 10, 2019, at the Korea International Trade Association. In the meeting, actions taken by the government were shared and discussed to build a convenient environment for SMEs’ online export.
In 2018, the e-commerce export (reverse overseas direct purchase through the Internet) reached USD 3.25 billion, increasing by 25% from the preceding year with the growing influence of the Korean wave. Taking notice of the rapidly expanding global e-commerce, Korea launched the consultation body in July 2018 to address the difficulties of its SMEs regarding logistics, customs, and marketing.
In the meeting, presentations were made on the plans to establish the standard information system, install e-commerce hubs, and construct the customs platform exclusively for e-commerce export.
