The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister Han Seong-sook) announced on Wednesday the 26th that it hosted the Korea-ASEAN Global Technology Transfer Partners Day, an event designed to support the overseas expansion of high-potential technologies developed by Korean SMEs.

This year’s forum served as an official platform to promote technology collaboration between Korean SMEs and companies in key ASEAN markets – Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia. The event produced tangible results, with 20 technology-transfer cooperation MOUs signed on-site.

The achievement builds on the successful outcomes of the 2025 pilot program, which established a strong foundation for cooperation concluding six MOUs – primarily in Vietnam. Based on these early successes, this year’s initiative expanded its scope to three major ASEAN countries, effectively broadening the technology-cooperation network across the region.

Notably, the forum went beyond basic technology-transfer transactions and reinforced an international cooperation model anchored in mutual growth, paving the way for joint ventures, local commercialization and deeper business partnerships. This, in turn, is expected to significantly strengthen the momentum behind Korean SMEs’ overseas expansion.

Korea-ASEAN technology-transfer cooperation now stands as a key strategic partnership enabling SMEs to enter global markets. Looking ahead, the initiative is expected to serve as a foundation for expanding mutually beneficial international cooperation models – from technology exchange and joint development to full local commercialization.

During the event, five contributors were also recognized for their outstanding efforts in advancing SME technology transfer and commercialization. The awards aim to foster a culture that supports sustained innovation within the SME technology ecosystem.

MSS stated that it will continue to strengthen SME technological competitiveness and long-term growth by expanding support for domestic and international technology transactions, promoting commercialization, and providing financial assistance tailored to SME innovation needs.
