The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister OH Youngju) announced that it will be recruiting companies to participate in the 2025 digital-based automated MRV solution distribution project from Thursday, June 19 to Thursday, July 24.
MRV refers to Measurement, Reporting, and Verification of carbon emissions, and is a core competency that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) must develop to respond to international carbon regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), product carbon footprint, and life cycle greenhouse gas emissions assessments. The “Digital-Based Automated MRV Solution Distribution” project is being implemented for the first time in 2025 to help SMEs, many of which lack dedicated organizations and professional personnel, independently respond to highly specialized carbon regulations. It aims to prepare them for the full implementation of the CBAM in 2026. Through this project, MSS will provide a comprehensive package that includes: ▲ software that calculates carbon emissions based on energy consumption such as electricity; ▲ hardware such as energy usage meters for each process and facility, as well as data communication devices; and ▲ verification by a professional institution to ensure the reliability of the emission calculations. SMEs that directly or indirectly export CBAM-covered items to the European Union (EU) may form a consortium with SMEs that provide automated MRV solutions and apply for the project. Detailed information on the 2025 “Digital-Based Automated MRV Solution Distribution” project announcement can be found on the MSS website (www.mss.go.kr) and the ESG Integrated Platform (kdoctor.kosmes.or.kr/esgplatform). Meanwhile, on June 18, the government held the second inter-ministerial briefing session on the 2025 EU CBAM response at the KBIZ Hall of the Korea Federation of SMEs. During the session, working-level SME representatives were introduced to the CBAM response guide for SMEs and the Digital-Based Automated MRV Solution Distribution project. |
