MSS is scheduled to hold the main event at OpenAI's headquarters in San Francisco in mid-March 2024.
On January 30, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister OH Youngju) held a meeting with thirteen startups that will participate in a collaborative program with OpenAI, a global leader in AI technology. The meeting was held at the Seoul Startup Alliance & Space and was presided over by LIM Jungwook, Director-General for Startup and Venture Innovation.

Those AI-related startups have been chosen for collaboration programs with OpenAI after going through preliminary rounds. The objective of the meeting was to discuss plans for future collaboration, share the schedule for the main event in the United States, and explore ways to achieve results through collaboration programs.

The collaboration program with OpenAI aims to help promising Korean AI-related startups expand globally and enhance their technological development capabilities through collaboration with OpenAI. MSS selected fourteen promising startups through preliminary rounds last year.

    Overview of the preliminary rounds
      ‣ (Event Name) K-startup & OpenAI Matching Day (Dec. 14-15, 2023)
      ‣ (Main Contents) After written and face-to-face evaluation by OpenAI staff for 220 companies that applied for the collaboration program, fourteen companies were selected to go to the main event. Out of the selected companies, nine were chosen for API utilization and five for general collaboration.

At the meeting, MSS shared updates on the progress of its collaboration project with OpenAI and plans for the upcoming main event in the United States. Participating companies presented their collaboration tasks and plans. The attendees also talked about strategies to achieve successful outcomes through the project.

Deputy Minister LIM Jungwook for Startup and Venture Innovation expressed, "During today's meeting, we confirmed South Korean AI startups' desire to expand globally. The Ministry of SMEs and Startups aims to facilitate successful collaboration with OpenAI."

During discussions with OpenAI, MSS has confirmed that the main event will be held at OpenAI's U.S. headquarters in San Francisco in mid-March. The agenda's specifics, including meeting with OpenAI developers, K-Startup IR, and a networking session, are under discussion.
