KCON, one of the most prominent Korean Wave (K-Wave) events in Korea opens from August 17 to 20 (local time) in Los Angeles. This year’s event will be held in conjunction with a promotional event for Korean small and medium enterprise (SME) products and an export consulting program.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (“MSS”); the Foundation for Cooperation Among Large Enterprises, SMEs, Farmers, and Fishers; and Korea Trade?Investment Promotion Agency (“KOTRA”) will operate a consultation program and a promotion event aimed at capitalizing on KCON, a K-Wave festival organized by CJ E&M, to help Korean SMEs expand their operations to the North American market with products that can benefit from the K-Wave marketing.

Fifty Korean SMEs, mostly consisting of consumer product companies (including beauty, fashion, living, and so on), will be invited to participate in a one-on-one business consultation with local vendors and buyers (B2B), as well as a brand promotion and sales event that targets visitors at KCON (B2C).

In particular, the organizers plan to provide enhanced hands-on programs and co-implement the programs with online marketing efforts to improve visitor reception and maximize the promotion of SME products.

Since the beginning of KCON in 2014, a total of 13 export support programs in conjunction with KCON, MAMA, and other K-Wave events have supported a total of 509 SMEs and allowed the SMEs to sign new export contracts on the spot (worth KRW 12.4 billion in total through the years that the events were held) through onsite sales activities, as well as consult with buyers and vendors.

In addition, these support programs serve as the main vehicle through which SMEs can expand their contact points with local consumers and experience local markets themselves through the power of the brands owned by larger enterprises.
