Creating traditional markets consumers seek

Building a convenient and safe shopping environment
MSS is pursuing a project of modernizing the facilities of traditional markets, including the establishment of convenience facilities such as parking lots, arches and roofs and entry roads and the repair of old facilities to promote the economic vitalization and increased customers and revenue of traditional markets. In addition, it is creating an environment for quick and convenient shopping at the markets by introducing a smartphone payment system, and operating mobile shops in collaboration with private mobile carriers. MSS is also promoting the shared growth of the markets and their surrounding business districts and creating convenient markets through business district vitalization projects and support for shopping and delivery services. As part of creating safe traditional markets, it is also carrying out fire safety analysis.

Making traditional markets attractive
MSS is altering traditional markets into places of purchase, consumption, and merchandise attraction by promoting the transformation of the markets into culture-tourism type markets linked with intrinsic local culture. In addition, MSS is supporting diverse marketing activities such as performance events, sales promotion and trains for touring traditional markets, as well as annually holding ‘Expo of Excellent Markets Nationwide’ to make excellent traditional markets widely known. It is also issuing “Traditional Market Onnuri Gift Certificates” that can be used in all markets nationwide to contribute to their improved revenue and creation of new customers. MSS further manages a merchant university so that merchants themselves will enhance their competitiveness in addition to improving the quality of their services.
